Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7 users who have been contemplating the upgrade to Windows 8 now have only till the end of the month before prices jump. The $39.99 introductory upgrade price for Windows 8 basic and Pro, which was introduced in October upon Windows 8’s release, is surprisingly low in comparison to previous Windows upgrades.
Starting in February the price for the basic Windows 8 upgrade will rise to $119.99, and $199.99 for the Pro edition, which adds enhanced networking and data features.
In addition, the Windows 8 Pro Pack and Windows 8 Media Center Pack get much more moderate increases. The Windows 8 Pro Pack, which allows you to upgrade from the Windows 8 basic edition to the Pro, goes from $69.99 to $99.99. The Windows 8 Media Center Pack, which is currently free, will be just $9.99 when the new prices take effect.
Plus don’t forget that if you purchased a Windows 7 computer after June 1, 2012 or before January 31, 2013, you can still upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for just $14.99, through February 28.
