Businesses today are evolving to need CIO’s that are truly great Integration and collaboration specialists. Being able to look at IT through a business lens and identify areas where the business is most in need for technological upgrades, reorganization, and integration is becoming an ever increasing requirement of the CIO’s of dynamic growing and shrinking businesses. Whether you are trying to become more efficient, cut costs, increase margins, or increase demand, identifying key areas to upgrade or integrate is an absolute must.
CIO’s today must be able to understand their company’s strategy and vision, they must learn how key people are measured and evaluated and they must be able to steer the company in that direction most effectively with technology. Or technology will be the company’s greatest downfall into the future.
Not everyone in the company understands technology the way the IT director and IT department do. So it is very important to be able to communicate in layman’s language what the technology will do and how it will help various departments for their specific everyday work. So, really, the IT director is required to become a jack of all trades in the company. He or she will have to understand what each person needs to accomplish on a daily basis in order to get the best tools for the job.
It is also important to have IT personnel either on staff or outsourced which is aligned with the CIO and the company’s goals and visions. Finding the right staff is becoming more and more important and difficult as well. As technology evolves, the proficiencies of the IT staff most also evolve. Sometimes it is best to outsource IT staff as many IT companies are required to hold certain competencies in order to maintain reseller status.
